The Bowling Green Hot Rods continued a series at Classic Park in Willowick

In game one, the Hot Rods took the early lead with a RBI single from shortstop Michael Russell in the third inning against Shao Ching Chiang 8 11 . Chaing tossed a complete game in a loss, giving up his final two runs in the seventh inning on an error from first basemen Anthony Miller.
On the pitching side
Jose Iglesias Jersey, the Hot Rods got a complete game from starter Eduar Lopez 4 2 , giving up a lone run in the seventh inning on a wild pitch on four hits. The complete game was the first for Lopez on the year and third for the Hot Rods pitching staff this season. The other two previous complete games were tossed by Genesis Cabrera, both coming against the Lake County Captains.
In game two, Lake County took the initial lead in the second inning on a two run homer from outfielder Bobby Ison off of Hot Rods starter Yoel Espinal. In his first start on the mound since 2011 in the Dominican Summer League with the Detroit Tigers, Espinal tied a season high with seven strikeouts, but gave up one of two runs in the fifth inning that allowed the Captains to take a 4 1 lead.

After a two run homer from Lake County outfielder Jodd Carter tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth, Bowling Green mounted one final surge in the seventh inning against Chirstian Miester 2 2 to roll to the doubleheader sweep. With Russell on first after a leadoff single, catcher Brett Sullivan laced a double to left field that plated Russell to give the Hot Rods the lead.
To secure the win and then doubleheader sweep, Tim Ingram notched his sixth save of the year with a scoreless seventh inning.
With the win, the Hot Rods clinched their third doubleheader sweep of the season, all against the Lake County Captains. Bowling Green 38 20 is now a game ahead of the South Bend Cubs 37 21 for first place in the Midwest League Eastern Division for the second half.
The Hot Rods magic number to clinch a playoff berth is at four and they are a season high 23 games over .500 75 52 .
